Our Mission & History
At Co Adventurers we aim to ensure that children across the Southwest of England, who are challenged by mainstream education, are not precluded from success.
We respond with integrity to the voice of each child, parent, and teacher in creating unique, innovative programmes that are individually tailored to children’s different situations.
To optimise each child’s potential by using expert practitioners, adhering to best practice and maintaining positive communication with all parties at all times.
We measure success by the increase in each child’s capacity for making responsible, meaningful life choices and, where appropriate, to facilitate their reintegration back into school.
Ultimately, we reduce the burden on a school’s resources by enabling children to reintegrate into normal educational routines and school activities.
We take disengaged and disadvantaged pupils on a journey that empowers them to see life’s challenges as adventures and opportunities helping them to consider making responsible, life enhancing choices.
Each child explores, experiments and gains confidence alongside our experienced teachers, mentors and outdoor specialists. Messy, playful, adventurous or quietly cautious, we give each child their own goal-oriented pathway to success that is built on their individual interests.
Our History
Co Adventurers began in Exmouth in 2020 during Lockdown when schools were challenged to provide learning activities and outdoor opportunities for the children of key workers. It soon developed into a much-needed resource for standard education activities as well as Forest School and Bushcraft training across Devon.
Co Adventurers was started by David Slater who is a Forest School Teacher, Learning Mentor, and Adult Education and includes a diverse team of professional educators. These include teachers or head teachers, outdoor specialists and therapists. All are equipped to support schools, working with head teachers and SEND coordinators.
Our talented team enables us to create both standard/ formal educational instruction for young people as well as bespoke outdoor learning experiences. These take place at schools like Woodbury Salterton C of E Primary School; Littleham C of E Primary School; St Sidwells C of E Primary School and other schools in Exeter. We also work in schools in Tiverton, Cullompton, Axminster, Teignmouth etc.
