Frequently Asked Questions

  • We offer educational, pastoral support with a bespoke educational plan for each pupil. This is based on Attachment Theory, a psychological discipline that maintains children need to develop positive relationships with key adults for normal development. Should a young person have broken attachments in their lives, they are likely to present adverse behaviours.

We use Attachment Based Mentoring to build a strong, secure relationship with each young person in a safe space. These secure attachments help to change adverse behaviour patterns and create positive outcomes. Once a person has safe, secure attachments, they can be more emotionally balanced, socially engaged and be more successful in their learning endeavours.

So at Co Adventurers we are constantly creating connection and building relationships as professional educators upholding the highest standards.

  • We work with 4–18-year-olds. We have manly worked with primary schools however, this year, post-covid we are increasingly seeing more secondary school students. We now have a number of 12-18-year-olds. Due to Covid-19 and Lockdown we have done extensive home tutoring for teenagers to help them pass their GSCEs.

  • Our talented team enables us to create standard educational as well as outdoor learning experiences for young people across Devon. Our school-based programmes take place at schools like:

  • We work with all children. This could range from 1:1 programmes in a school or outdoor environment. Our Forest School caters for entire classes, where we teach young people independent learning and risk management.

Of course, we also come alongside the most vulnerable young people and families within our communities. These are children who are disengaging with society completely. Some children may need a 2:1 programme with two adult learning mentors to each child. As professional educators, we are called in to help because we have a multi-disciplinary team that enables us to work with diverse special needs.

  • We do, during the summer holidays. Where children are in a foster situation, or living with extended family, there are budgets that can be accessed to provide them with activities. These can provide part of a monitoring process, checking up on a child’s wellbeing.

  • The word co is designed in such a way as to represent a pair of binoculars, echoing a sense of seeing and experiencing new things as one would on an adventure. This is complemented by a fire icon signifying the bush survival skills we teach.

  • We teach the national curriculum including Religious Education (RE).
